Technology

At Staten Island Pediatric Dentistry, we are committed to providing our young patients with the highest standard of dental care possible today. Our pediatric dentists continually invest time in continuing education and advanced training every year in order to stay on the leading edge of modern dentistry and bring you the best that dentistry has to offer.

We believe in investing in any dental technology that we know will improve the comfort, efficiency, and outcomes of the procedures we perform for our patients. Please take a moment to browse through the technology we currently use and do not hesitate to call our Staten Island dental office if you have questions at 718-761-7316.

Digital X-Rays

We use digital x-rays for several reasons, but one of the most important is that they expose your child to about 80 percent less radiation than film x-rays. Digital x-rays also allow our dentists to see what they can’t see during a visual exam. They can find the tiniest of cavities and address them long before they cause your child any pain.

Along with digital panoramic bitewing x-rays, we also have small flat digital sensors that fit in your child’s mouth and make the process far more comfortable. Detailed digital x-rays are also a great educational tool for parents because our dentists can show you what they see so that you can better understand our recommendations.

Solea Laser Dentistry

Using dental lasers is another way we help ensure that kids have a positive experience and leave us with a smile. Some of the procedures we perform with laser dentistry are:

  • Removing tooth decay
  • Frenectomies and the release of tethered tissues in the mouth
  • Canker sores, fever blisters, and cold sore relief
  • Treatment of gum disease, gingival discoloration, or small benign growths in the mouth

Laser dentistry is perfectly safe for children, and benefits them in the following ways:

  • Eliminates the need for local anesthesia, injections, and drilling
  • Allows for more efficient treatment and productive appointments.
  • Minimizes bleeding and the need for stitches
  • Sterilizes the area during treatment and reduces the risks of infections
  • Promotes faster healing

Overall, laser dentistry results in less time spent in the dental chair and a more comfortable experience for your child.

Panoramic X-Rays

When our pediatric dentists need to see all of your child’s mouth in a single continuous image, they turn to panoramic x-rays. With a panoramic x-ray, all your child does is stand still in front of the machine as an arm safely rotates around their head. This produces an image with a wide view of your child’s teeth, those that are present, and those that are developing. It allows us to see missing teeth, upper and lower jaws, bone, and surrounding structures in a single low radiation x-ray.

Panoramic and panorex bitewing x-rays are extraoral (outside of the mouth), so they are ideal for kids with a strong gag reflex, children with special healthcare needs, or those who can’t tolerate intraoral (inside the mouth) x-rays. These special images provide so much benefit beyond seeing cavities. They allow us to see orthodontic issues developing, so that we may alleviate them before your child is ready for comprehensive treatment.
